Retirement planning starts with a deceptively simple question: how much will you need to sustain your lifestyle once regular income stops? This calculator estimates that number by projecting your current monthly expenses forward to your retirement date using an inflation assumption, then estimating the corpus required to sustain those (much higher, future) expenses for your expected years in retirement.

Enter your current age, target retirement age, current monthly expenses, and assumptions for inflation and post-retirement investment return, and the calculator works backward to a required monthly SIP. Small changes to the inflation assumption move the final number more than most people expect, because it compounds over what is often a 20-30 year working horizon before retirement even begins.

One thing to keep in mind: this calculator estimates the corpus you'd need to build from scratch, so if you already have EPF, PPF, NPS or other retirement-directed savings accumulating in parallel, factor their projected maturity value in separately rather than planning as if starting from zero - otherwise you risk over-saving for the same goal twice.
