A step-up (or "top-up") SIP increases your instalment amount periodically - typically once a year, often in line with a salary increment - rather than keeping the same SIP amount fixed for the entire investment tenure. This calculator models that increasing pattern instead of a flat one.
Enter your starting SIP amount, an annual step-up percentage or fixed increase, tenure, and expected return, and compare the projected corpus against what a flat SIP of the same starting amount would have produced over the same period - the gap tends to be larger than most people expect.
That gap exists because a step-up SIP front-loads more money into the compounding process in relative terms - later, larger instalments may look small individually, but even a modest step-up of around 10% a year, sustained over a decade or more, can shorten the time needed to reach a given goal noticeably compared to never increasing your SIP at all.
